Native Groundcovers

A scalable alternative to full meadow—same ecological benefits, different form

Not every site is suited to a full meadow—and that’s where native groundcovers play an essential role.

Native groundcovers are low-growing, regionally adapted plants that replace turf grass while providing many of the same ecological benefits as meadows. They suppress weeds without chemicals, protect and cool the soil, improve infiltration and reduce runoff, and require far less mowing and maintenance than lawn.

Ideal Applications

Native groundcovers are perfect for front yards or highly visible areas where a more manicured look is desired, slopes, tree understories, and shaded sites where grass struggles, areas where height or sightlines matter (near driveways, walkways, or property lines), and properties transitioning gradually away from lawn.

Groundcover plantings can stand alone or serve as a gateway to future meadow expansion.
